Battlefield Mayor Debra Hickey Elected President of
Missouri Municipal League

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Municipal League elected city of Battlefield Mayor Debra Hickey as President during the organization’s recent annual conference in St. Charles, Missouri.

Mayor Hickey began involvement in municipal government in 2005, when she was appointed to fill an alderman seat for Battlefield, Missouri. She was elected to that seat in 2006, and for the following three terms. She served as president of the board from April 2010-2014, fulfilling the duties of mayor from May 2013 – April 2014. Hickey has since been elected mayor in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Mayor Hickey has been active with MML, serving for six years on the Municipal Administration and Intergovernmental Relations Policy Committee. She served as chair of that committee, as well as a member of the MML Resolutions Committee. Since 2016, Hickey has served as an elected member of the MML Board of Directors, taking roles with the MML Nominating Committee and MML Distinguished Service Award Selection Committee. She is among the first group of recipients of MML’s Certified Municipal Government Official program, the Municipal Government Institute.

Hickey has a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Drury University and is a 1995 graduate of Drury’s Law Enforcement Academy, where she now serves as a part-time instructor. She has more than 2,500 hours of continuing education in the field of policing and is certified as an instructor in several specialized areas of policing.

Hickey maintains a passion to serve and has volunteered for many organizations including local, regional and state parent teacher associations, along with serving as an originator of Springfield’s Intergovernmental Task Force on Gangs and Youth Violence. Since Battlefield’s designation as the first Autism Friendly City in Missouri in 2016, she volunteers as a trainer for Battlefield-based Stars for Autism.

Mayor Hickey has four grown married children and 14 grandchildren.
